Paula Vaughan, Books 21-30

Cover photo: Coming soon! I’ve stitched Book 30, Needlewoman The Embroiderer, but need to finish making it into a tote bag to store and carry my cross-stitch projects.

This post includes the designs featured in books 21-30 of Paula Vaughan’s cross-stitch designs. To see the rest of her work, and to read my hints for finding these out-of-print patterns, please visit my main Paula Vaughan post.

Cover of a book containing cross-stitch pattern Tea, Roses, and Romance

Book 21: Tea, Roses, and Romance. This beautiful design features a teapot and teacup with flowers on them, a basket holding a large bouquet of flowers, and a straw hat decorated with a striped ribbon. Published in 1988.

Cover of a book containing cross-stitch pattern Cherished Dreams

Book 22: Cherished Dreams. This outdoor scene includes a white wooden gate with a heart-topped post, and a barbed wire fence. Irises and roses grow in front of the fence. A straw hat lies on the ground in front of the gate. Published in 1989.

Cover of a book containing cross-stitch pattern Forgotten Basket

Book 23: Forgotten Basket. This outdoor scene shows a couple of wooden posts and a barbed wire fence. A basket of pink roses – presumably forgotten since that’s the name of the design – hangs on a fence post. A metal watering can sits on the ground. Irises and daffodils are growing beside the fence. Published in 1989.

Cover of a book containing cross-stitch pattern Something Old, Something New

Book 24: Something Old, Something New. The scene is in a bedroom, with a bridal gown on a dress form, a veil draped over the edge of a trunk, and a Double Wedding Ring pattern quilt hanging over the door of the armoire in the background. The trunk also holds a tea set, and the trunk’s lid appears to have pictures decorating it. A basket on the floor holds a bouquet of red, pink, and white roses, possibly the bride’s bouquet. Small details include the pink floral striped wallpaper with a scalloped border, a sampler hanging on the wall, with a porch and a bush visible through the room’s window. Published in 1989.

Cover of a book containing cross-stitch pattern Rose of Sharon

Book 25: Rose of Sharon. The design shows a front porch. Behind the porch, a climbing rose bush grows beside another corner of the house, and a barn and some trees are visible across the yard. A brown wicker rocking chair holds a Rose of Sharon quilt, and a sewing basket sits beside the chair. A dresser in the foreground holds a basket and a pitcher, both filled with flowers. Published in 1989.

Cover of a book containing cross-stitch pattern Grandma's Favorite Chair

Book 26: Grandma’s Favorite Chair. The design is set on a front porch, with the home’s screen door in the background and the porch steps in the foreground. Irises grow beside the porch, and a potted flower sits on the top step. A wooden chair holds a Dresden Plate quilt. Published in 1989.

Cover of a book containing cross-stitch pattern Friendship Bouquet

Book 27: Friendship Bouquet. This design also features a front porch with the house’s door in the background. A pink rose bush grows beside the porch, and a basket on the porch holds more pink roses. A quilt is draped over the porch railing. The quilt pattern is what I know as a Shoefly block. Published in 1989.

Cover of a book containing cross-stitch pattern Needlewoman The Seamstress

Book 28: Needlewoman The Seamstress. This was the first of three designs honoring needlewomen. This one highlights a seamstress, with a pink dress displayed on a dress form in front of a Singer treadle sewing machine. A white ruffled curtain frames a window with a pink rose bush outside. A potted flower – possibly a violet – sits on the sewing table. (I would definitely knock that plant off the table with my elbow if this was my sewing table!) A piece of lace or ribbon hangs out of one of the drawers. Published in 1989.

Cover of a book containing cross-stitch pattern Needlewoman The Quilter

Book 29: Needlewoman The Quilter. This was the second of three designs honoring needlewomen. This one features a wooden rocking chair with a heart-shaped pincushion hanging from the back of the chair. A Grandmother’s Fan quilt is draped across the chair, with a sewing basket. The window in the background has white ruffled curtains, and a white rose bush is visible outside. Published in 1989.

Needlewoman The Embroiderer

Book 30: Needlewoman The Embroiderer. This was the third of three designa in the needlewoman series. This one honors the embroiderer, and features a sewing basket displaying a measuring tape, a skein of embroidery floss, and an embroidered design in a hoop, with a needle and thread parked on one side. The text displays a Bible verse reading, “She worketh willingly with her hands. Proverbs 31:13” A pitcher sits on a doily beside the sewing basket and holds a bouquet of flowers. On the table and doily, we can see a tatting shuttle, pincushion, scissors with a blue ribbon, several spools of sewing thread and a skein of embroidery thread, and a thimble. Published in 1989.

Happy Stitching!
