This post includes the designs featured in books 51-60 of Paula Vaughan’s cross-stitch designs. To see the rest of her work, and to read my hints for finding these out-of-print patterns, please visit my main Paula Vaughan post.
To change the skin or hair color of the people featured in some of these designs, search for skin tone charts online. (If you find one that is especially helpful, please let me know!) You’ll need several shades to take advantage of the highlights and shadows. Check for mirrors – if the person is reflected in the mirror, remember to change them there as well.
Book 51: A Time to Dream. This bridal design features a bride in her wedding gown, looking out the open doors at a garden with a rose-covered arbor. Her flower girl stands beside her, holding the bride’s bouquet. A dresser holds a flower arrangement in a pitcher, the veil, and a few other small items. A chair is upholstered with rose-printed fabric. Published in 1993.
Book 52: Garden Party. This design features a basket filled with flowers. One seed packet is tucked in among the flowers in the basket, and two more sit on the table. A straw hat also sits on the table, with a dark green band and pink roses decorating it. A pair of gloves sit beside the basket. A window with a ruffled white curtain is in the background. Published in 1993.
Book 53: Inspired by Scripture I. This booklet includes three designs. The design shown on the front cover is called Thy Word. It features a kerosene lamp, an embroidery hoop with a Bible verse on it, a pincushion, a pair of scissors with a ribbon, a teapot, a teacup, and a window with a ruffled curtain. The verse reads, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet… Psalms 119:105” The back cover shows two designs. Her Clothing has an old-fashioned purple dress, with a central panel decorated with roses. A large mirror stands in the background, with a straw hat hanging on the side. The verse reads, “Her clothing is silk and purple. Proverbs 31:22” Whatsoever Things shows a basket of flowers and an embroidery hoop with lines indicating embroidered words. The verse across the bottom reads, “Whatsoever things are lovely… dwell on these things. Phil. 4:8” Published in 1993.
Book 54: Inspired by Scripture II. This booklet contains two designs. The front cover shows Revelation, featuring a chest with a stars quilt, a sewing basket, a pitcher and basin, and a window with a view of a snow-covered yard with a barn, a wagon, trees, and a holly bush. The verse reads, “I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. Revelation 22:16” The back cover features Song of Solomon. A Rose of Sharon quilt is draped over a chest. Beside the chest are a pitcher and basin and an oval-framed portrait. A rose bush is visible through the window in the background. The verse reads, “I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys. Song of Solomon 2:1” Published in 1994.
Book 55: Thoughts of Spring. This design shows a sewing room with a Singer treadle sewing machine. The green wooden chair in front of the machine has blue cushions with red roses. A pink dress is displayed on a dress form, and a white floral dress hangs in a chifforobe. A Dresden Plate quilt hangs over the door of the chifforobe, and a straw hat sits on the dresser side. A hat box on the floor holds another straw hat. A sewing basket sits beside the sewing machine. A window in the background gives us a glimpse of a rose bush outside. Published in 1994.
Book 56: Quilts For All Seasons. This book contains 12 designs of quilts, one for each month of the year. This book has its own post to show all of the designs – click or tap the name of the book to jump to that page. Published in 1994.
Book 57: Summer Welcome. This design features a front porch with intricate corbels. A hanging basket holds a fern. Sunflowers, roses, and a flower I can’t identify grow beside the porch. A barn is visible across the yard. On the porch, a green wooden porch swing holds a stack of two quilts, with a floral quilt draped over the swing. A brown rocking chair has blue cushions with roses, and holds a 9-Patch quilt. A sewing basket, spool of thread, and a flower pot of geraniums complete the scene. Published in 1994.
Book 58: Good Neighbors. This design also features a front porch, with corbels similar to the ones in the previous design. In the background are two other houses and a church. Two women stand beside a road, talking. Pink, purple, and yellow irises and pink roses grow beside the porch. On the porch, a white wicker porch swing holds a Double Wedding Ring quilt, and a sewing basket sits on the porch floor beside the swing. On the left side of the design, a small table holds a vase of roses and a basket of roses. Published in 1995..
Book 59: Delicate Beauties. This design features a Grandmother’s Fan quilt in a hoop. The fabrics in the quilt are very detailed, and you can see floral prints, stripes, and dots. The table also holds a pincushion, a spool of thread, and a pitcher holding a bouquet of pink roses. Published in 1995.
Book 60: Quilts Of The Bible. This book contains 12 designs of quilt blocks named from the Bible. This book has its own post to show all of the designs – click or tap the name of the book to jump to that page. Published in 1996.
