This post shows the 12 designs included in Paula Vaughan’s Book 60: Quilts Of The Bible, published in 1996. I’ve included the front and back covers as well. To see the rest of her work, and to read my hints for finding these out-of-print patterns, please visit my main Paula Vaughan post.

Cover of a book containing cross-stitch pattern Quilts Of The Bible

Front cover – featuring Tree of Life, Rose of Sharon, Heavenly Problems, and Job’s Tears. (I had to edit out an address label that was covering up the original price – I believe it was $19.95.)

Cross-stitch design Garden of Eden from Quilts of the Bible

Garden of Eden features a quilt made with the Garden of Eden block in pastel colors with pink sashing. The quilt is draped over a barbed wire fence. Beside the quilt is a wood gate painted white, with a heart-shaped finial on the gate post. Roses and irises grow beside the fence. A straw hat with a blue ribbon sits on the ground.

Cross-stitch design Dove in the Window from Quilts of the Bible

Dove in the Window features a quilt made with blue and white fabrics. The quilt is draped over a brown wicker rocking chair, and a green basket sits on the quilt. The chair has cushions that are a dusty pink with roses on them, and the chair sits on a large circular rug that also has roses on it. A potted fern sits in front of a window that has white ruffled curtains. A pink rose bush is visible through the window.

Cross-stitch design Jacob's Ladder from Quilts of the Bible

Jacob’s Ladder shows two quilts draped over the side of a wooden wagon. The blue and white quilt uses the Jacob’s Ladder quilt pattern, and the red, yellow, and tan quilt is a 4-Patch. A basket of apples sits on the seat of the wagon. The yoke for the cows or horses sits on the grass in front of the wagon.

Cross-stitch design Joseph's Coat from Quilts of the Bible

Joseph’s Coat shows a front porch scene. A white wicker porch swing with a blue floral cushion and pillows holds a quilt made with the Joseph’s Coat pattern. The quilt is held in a large hoop, and a basket of fabric sits on the porch beside the swing. A flower pot holds geraniums, and a rose bush grows by the corner of the house.

Cross-stitch design King David's Crown from Quilts of the Bible

King David’s Crown shows two quilts hung over a clothesline tied between two porch posts. A quick Google search indicates that both quilts shown have been known as King David’s Crown, making this an example of how two different traditional quilt blocks can have the same name! A wooden chair with a blue seat cushion is on the porch behind the quilts, and a metal pot holds flowers. Irises and daisies grow beside the porch.

Cross-stitch design Solomon's Puzzle from Quilts of the Bible

Solomon’s Puzzle shows a purple and white quilt made with the Solomon’s Puzzle block. The quilt is held in a hoop. A sewing basket, pincushion, scissors, & two spools of thread sit on the table around the quilt. An ornate kerosene lamp sits beside the quilt. In the background, a white ruffled curtain frames a window with a rose bush visible outside.

Cross-stitch design Job's Tears from Quilts of the Bible

Job’s Tears features a Singer treadle sewing machine. A Job’s Tears quilt with pink alternate blocks sits under the needle of the machine. A terra cotta flower pot holding purple violets sits on a white doily to the right of the machine. In the background, a window with white ruffled curtains gives us a glimpse of a pink rose bush growing outside.

Cross-stitch design Rose of Sharon from Quilts of the Bible

Rose of Sharon features a Rose of Sharon quilt draped over a green wooden rocking chair on a front porch. A pink bonnet hangs on the back of the chair, and a basket of fabric rests on the quilt. A terra cotta flower pot holds red geraniums. Through the window of the house, another potted flower is framed by white curtains.

Cross-stitch design Star of the Magi from Quilts of the Bible

Star of the Magi features an outdoor scene. A quilt made with the Star of the Magi block with blue sashing spills out of a large basket. Behind the quilt, a wooden chair holds a basket of flowers, and a straw hat with a pink ribbon hangs on the back of the chair. In the background, flowers grow beside a barbed wire fence.

Cross-stitch design Star of Bethlehem from Quilts of the Bible

Star of Bethlehem shows a large Star of Bethlehem quilt hanging on a clothesline. A pink rose bush and daisies grow beside the clothesline. An empty basket sits on the ground beside one pole. A barn is visible across the yard.

Cross-stitch design Heavenly Problems from Quilts of the Bible

Heavenly Problems features a trunk, presumably in the attic of a house. A red, tan, and blue quilt made with the Heavenly Problems block is draped over the open trunk. A folded green dress and a pitcher and basin also sit in the trunk. A candle, a hat box, a bundle of letters, and a book sit on the floor beside the trunk. A couple of framed pictures lean against the floral wallpapered wall behind the trunk.

Cross-stitch design Tree of Life from Quilts of the Bible

Tree of Life shows a Tree of Life quilt draped over an outside well. The well appears to be made from clay bricks with a wooden shingled roof. The quilt has large pink squares forming the alternate blocks among the intricately-pieced tree blocks. A pulley and the well’s rope hang over the cross bar. A bucket of yellow flowers sits on the edge of the well. Ivy climbs up on the well, and tulips grow on the ground beside the well. Other flowers grow in the distance.
